Service 10 · Radiation Protection

Radiation Protection and Safety Training

We train personnel whose work involves radiation — Radiation Protection Officers (RSO), technicians on industrial sites and plant managers — on programmes accredited by the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation and the National eLearning Center. Programmes are delivered by trainers engaged by the IAEA for its own programmes, in the classroom, online or at the client's sites.

Programmes by role and exposure level

Radiation Protection Officers (RSO/RPO)

Qualification of officers in industrial, medical and research facilities to manage the radiation protection programme.

Technicians on industrial sites

Personnel who handle radioactive sources and instruments on site and may be exposed in the course of their daily work.

Facility managers and supervisors

Personnel with decision-making authority and regulatory responsibility, who require an overview of radiation risks rather than measurement detail.

NORM handling teams

Specialised training on handling naturally occurring radioactive material and its waste.

Workers under dose monitoring

Workers who wear dosimeters and need to understand what is measured and why.

Emergency response teams

Preparedness for radiological incidents and the correct initial response actions.

Training topics in radiation protection and safety

01

Radiation protection principles and dosimetry

Fundamental concepts: the nature of radiation, exposure limits and dose measurement.

02

NORM handling

Specialised training on handling naturally occurring radioactive material across the oil and gas, water and mining sectors.

03

Facility-specific programmes

We build the programme around your sources, your team roles and your licence requirements.

A session from the Radiation Protection Officer (RSO) course

Radiation Protection Officer (RSO) programme

A programme qualifying Radiation Protection Officers (RSO) in industrial, medical and research facilities, with a curriculum designed in line with the examination system adopted by the Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission (NRRC). It runs over five training days (40 training hours, 8 am to 5 pm), delivered face to face in Riyadh and Al Khobar or through a virtual classroom. Intakes recur throughout the year, including one delivered in Arabic, and are taught by trainers engaged by the IAEA for its own programmes, under TVTC and NELC accreditation.
