NORM & Radioactive Waste Management
We handle NORM and TENORM waste from industrial sources and water-treatment plants — permitted to treat, store and dispose of low-activity radioactive waste, covering characterisation, transport, disposal and documentation under the environmental regulations. A technology developed in-house reduces a waste stream to a quarter of its original volume and has been applied to 650 tonnes.
NORM waste types we accept
Fly ash
A fine powdery ash produced when coal is burned; it can contain low levels of uranium and thorium.
Phosphogypsum
A by-product of the fertiliser industry; it can contain high levels of radium.
Petrochemical & refining sludges
Waste from the oil and gas industry; it can contain low levels of uranium and thorium.
Sand blast grit
Grit used to clean surfaces before painting or welding; it can contain low levels of uranium and thorium.
Refractory
A heat-resistant material used in industrial applications; it can contain high levels of thorium.
Pipe & pipeline scale
Build-up on the inside of pipes and pipelines; it can contain low levels of uranium and thorium.
NORM waste management stages
Characterisation
Establishing the waste type, its activity level and the extent of the affected areas before anything is moved.
Transportation
Moving the waste to the treatment facility under permit and in equipped vehicles.
Treatment and volume reduction
Treating the waste and reducing it to a quarter of its original volume using in-house technology, which lowers storage and disposal costs.
Disposal and documentation
Final disposal under the environmental regulations, with full documentation of the chain.
